How google ranks a website?
Google ranks their website with an algorithm which is unknown as Google never told it directly how their algorithm works. But at the same time from google they publish a webmaster guideline about what they want or expect for how a website should look or how enriched its content should be. Google always want their user, by user I mean the person who is searching for an information in google gets the best result relevant to their question or query. As an example if someone searches by writing ” Best Places in Portugal” , Google wants the best information to be Infront of the person who is searching the query. Because if Google fails to provide relevant answers or information’s regarding the the users query or question, people will gradually lose interest in its search engine. As a result they will lose users which google never wants. As it is their Business. That is why Google is really careful which website needs to be shown in the front page and which should not be shown in the front page.
There are 200-300 ranking factor depending on which Google decides which page/url is capable of ranking in the first page or not. As an example if we take page speed as a ranking factor, google wants the url/site to be fast in both mobile/desktop. If the page loading speed is slow google does not want it to be on the first page as it violates the ranking factor. Because users would like to visit a faster website rather than a website which loads very slownly as it is tempting. So we can take page loading speed as a ranking factor. Other ranking factors which we can take as an examples are Architecture of the website, Quantity of Backlinks your website has, Amount of share you get on social medias, Quantity of citation your website has, Quantity of content your website has etc. Depending on these ranking factors Google provides you a secret score and compares with the pages which are currently on the First page of google. If your secret score is higher than those current ranked pages then you will get ranked on top of those pages.
As an SEO expert your 99% of time will be invested in modifying these ranking factors so that you are able to rank a page on top of google for a keyword.
